Just finished watching the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest – the most obvious fix I have ever seen perpetrated on the American public (besides the Iraq war, but let’s not get too political).

Hey! Did you guys know that Weihenstephan is both the oldest brewery in the world and the brewer that collaborated with Boston Beer on Infinium? It’s true, look it up.

Let’s talk about bocks bay-bee. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good beers and the great beers that may be. Let’s talk about bocks!

Yes, that was a terrible Salt N Pepa impression. Speaking of N, a couple of people at a table were drawing funny cartoony things with crayons on the back of beer coasters and putting them back in the coaster holsters, and the one that got the biggest laugh?

COX N DIX

It wasn’t even a cartoon, I think the humor value was looking at three cartoon animals, a cartoon insect, a cartoon poo, and then the disparate words COX N DIX. If you haven’t seen Hot Tub Time Machine, I suggest you go watch it so you can A) laugh for an hour and however long it is and B) know what I’m talking about.

Was I supposed to talk about Bocks? Weizen means Wheat. Bock means goat. Wikipedia says that it came from perhaps a calculated mispronunciation of the area from which this beer originated. Monks used bocks the same way Ghandi used OJ over the course of his fast – for nourishment. Another reason to be Christian. What did you give up for lent this year? Not drinking, that’s for sure.

Should call me SIRE

All right, enough of this – best Bock rhyme in the comments section gets a Weihenstephaner Vitus. You’re going to have to pick it up in the LES, but I will give it to you and you will taste it.

Just The Facts

Appearance: Cloudy as a mo’fo
Smell: Spicy, orange zesty
Taste: Yeasty, apricoty, hay
Mouthfeel: It’s a blitzkrieg on your palate – thick for a Wheat Beer, but that’s because it’s a Wheat Bock
Drinkability: It’s balanced, so it’s not too much in any direction that you would get annoyed by a taste, but it’s got a body on it, so that might dissuade you from having a session with this guy
