Birra Moretti by Birra Moretti. I can’t think of any other brand that does that – Clorox Bleach by Clorox… Maybe the company was called “Clorox Bleach” before. What’s a Pale Lager?

Stella, Harp, Heineken, Grolsch, Yuengling, Michelob – all pale lagers. I guess you get the idea of what you’re going to be drinking here with that list. They’re lagers without any other grains (the adjuncts of corn) and are a bit sweeter than traditional lagers. With the name “Pale” attached, you’re going to see a bit more hop character from this group as well, not only on the nose, but also the palate. The word pale previously designated beer made with pale malt.

Why is a beer called “pale” today? Three hundred years ago, most beers were dark. From Wikipedia:

The pale ales of the early 18th century were lightly hopped and quite different from later pale ales. By the mid-18th century, pale ale was mostly manufactured with coke-fired malt, which produced less smoking and roasting of barley in the malting process, and hence produced a paler beer.

In on the BJCP list, there’s no such thing as a “Pale Lager.” Maybe this is just a Lager. I don’t think the people at Birra Moretti really care about what category you put them in, as long as you drink it.

With pizza, or spaghetti and a meat balls!
