Avast, ye mateys! I’ll bet you don’t have as much of a problem breaking into the pirate voice as I do. September 19th can never come too fast for me.

Did you know you could change your Facebook Language to Pirate? I’m going to write about Brown Ales today and then convert the whole thing in the Pirate Translator. Here’s what the ghost of Cap’n Michael Jackson has to say about Brown Ales:

In th’ south ‘o England be a dark-brown ale, sweet in palate, low in ‘spiced rum flav’rin (3-3.5 by volume). In th’ nort’east, a reddish-brown ale, drier, ’bout 4.4-5. tho slightly sour. Hear th’ brown brews ‘o Flanders be also ales, though they don’t oft be usin’ th’ moniker.

Aye, tis a curious thing, indeed that th’ brewers o’ the Queen be havin’ two different styles of what we be callin’ th’ Brown Ale. Th’ pirate translater weren’t workin’ to me likin’, so I started writin’ me own Pirate speech. An article written in 1995 lambastes Brown Ale as a style:

When I be runnin’ a homebrew competition, brown ale be me bes’ motivatin’ I had fer keepin’ th’ judges ‘n order. “If ye show up late this year, I be puttin’ ye on brown ales! Rude commentin’ on the judgin’ forms and it’s double rounds o’ brown ales fer ye.”

Becaus’ the style be easy t’ pull off, th’ brewer that’s but a swab oft be tryin’ t’ make this style and just as oft failin’ miserably. Speakin’ o’ failin’ and pirates, how d’ya like me new rags? What be mind bogglin’ ’bout th’ scenario is that there be no rotate function on th’ Ow.ly photo page. Don’t make but a hair o’ sense not to be havin’ sum’n so basic and necessary, yet be callin’ yerself a photo upload site.

Scurvy Dawgs.

Just The Facts

Appearance: Brown. What’d you expect? Two finger beige head
Smell: From Seth – They’re not lyin… Smells brown.
Taste: Like it could be fron oak barrels, finish is a bit smoky, but there’s none up front. Oaky and smoky
Mouthfeel: Medium Bodied, lighter on the carbonation
Drinkability: A little Rauchy – kind of bold in that regard. The higher ABV also does well to prevent me from calling it sessionable.
